The crux that alters games and ruins them for the fans ...

I came across this article via reddit today and the title "EA research said Deep Space 1 & 2 were too scary" amused me at first. I mean let's be honest here, why would you play that game if you wouldn't want a scary/horror experience?

Deep Space 1 was first released in October 2008 advertised as a "sci fi survival horror". This line alone suggests that the game would appeal to a certain player that enjoys a scary game or a horror movie. So naturally the game created a fanbase that enjoys the thrill of the game and the tension it is building while you are playing it.

Back to the original article I came across suggesting that the game is "too scary". Apparently EA announced that they are working on Deep Space 3 and are shifting the focus of the game from pure horror to a more action orientated game. Naturally this caused an outcry in the fanbase as it is violating the idea and principle of that game.

The reason that has been give why EA choose to change the course of the game has been stated by EAs marketing boss Laura Miele: "We were doing research coming out of Dead Space 1 and 2 and were really proud of those products. We received feedback to understand how we can take the game out to even more consumers."

So there we have it; once again. Betray your fanbase to make more money. I am sure that they will reach their goal of making more money, of a game that has been altered to the worst for the fans, once again. And yet again this will send a clear message saying "you're doing it right!"

So not only are we, as in the Battlefield children, been ignored to make more money, now they carry that idea over to other games. I can't help but thinking that at some point in the future every game will be so similar that only the setting and abbreviations (FPS, RPG, etc.) describe the difference of a game and no longer what the game itself does.

She also said: "The horror of Dead Space is still all there. Its still true to its roots and no less scary ..." but honestly now, who really believes those kinda statement anymore?

EA are creating gaps in the market that I hope other developers are going to take advantage of.

Planetside 2 is one example of a developer taking advantage of this gap that EA created and is giving team based players the type of game they wish for.

I would personally like to thank Thank EA for being so short sighted. Thanks...................Fools.

Still growing? PC has always been strong and will continue to grow, it never went anywhere, it just went in it's own direction.
